Major James Warde Oliver of the 4th (King's Own) Regiment of Foot,
about 1799. Miniature portrait.
Oliver was commissioned into the regiment as an Ensign in January 1794.
He was held as a prisoner of war in 1799 and promoted Captain the same
year. He left the regiment in 1809 and was wounded whilst serving in the
Peninsula War and died at Elvas, Portugal in 1811, aged 32.

Lieutenant Colonel James Wynch circa 1799. Miniature.
James Wynch was born in
Yorkshire
in 1763, son of Alexander Wynch, Governor of Madras. He joined the King’s
Own in August 1799 from the 36th Foot, becoming Lieutenant Colonel in the
November. He was wounded at Beverwyck, and again at Corunna whilst in
command of the regiment. He was appointed to command a brigade in the
Light Division in the
Peninsula
but died of dysentery at Lisbon in 1811.

Captain David Craig, 4th Foot, the King’s Own. Miniature portrait
in brass oval surround.
Served in the King’s Own between 1800 and 1820. He is known to have
served in the Peninsula and North America, where he was wounded at the
Battle of New Orleans in 1814.
KO2688/01 Purchased
Lieutenant Jonas Fawson, 4th Foot, the King’s Own. Watercolour
miniature.
Commissioned as an Ensign in the King’s Own on 27th February 1805 and promoted Lieutenant shortly
afterwards. He was killed in action at
San Sebastian on
31st August 1813,
one of five officers and 117 men killed during the storming of the
French-held fortress.
