Major James Warde Oliver of the 4th (King's Own) Regiment of Foot, about 1799.  Miniature portrait.
Oliver was commissioned into the regiment as an Ensign in January 1794.  He was held as a prisoner of war in 1799 and promoted Captain the same year.  He left the regiment in 1809 and was wounded whilst serving in the Peninsula War and died at Elvas, Portugal in 1811, aged 32.
