Soldiers of the Regiment

Private William Hodgson

Private William Hodgson, number 2949/200716, of the 1st/4th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
Enlisted 16th November 1914, at the age of 22 years and 11 months, British Expeditionary Force, 3rd May 1915 to 20th June 1915 and 4th April 1916 to 8th August 1916 when he was taken prisoner of war.


Soldier believed to be Private William Hodgson, number 2949/200716, of the 1st/4th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Postcard addressed to his brother, Mr A Hodgson, at his home address Cooney Hall, Bootle, Cumberland.
Postcard is postmarked ‘Blackpool’ and dated 8 Feb 1915. Reference is made to “that man that was in hospital died on Tuesday, we had a military funeral on Friday” who is more than likely to be Private William Bayliffe, number 3070, who is shown as having died at Blackpool Hospital, on 3 Feb 1918, and is buried in Blackpool Cemetery. He was born in Swarthmoor and enlisted in Ulverston.
