Walton
Corporal Tom Walton, number 1102, was born on 27th February 1887 and
he came from Garstang. He enlisted into the 5th King’s Own on 9th June
1910 and was present at various annual camps before he was mobilised in
August 1914. He went overseas on 14th February 1915. After service on
the Western Front he was wounded and spent time at Birmingham Eye
Hospital. He was discharged on 7th September 1916. He died at the age of
60 years on 15th March 1947.

Nine soldiers of the 5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment
at
Wantage Road Station, which was on the Great Western Main Line in the
Vale of the White Horse, actually at the village of Grove, more than two
miles north of Wantage. Wantage Road Station is a few miles to the West
of Didcot.
The rear of the card is marked “No. 4 Post, No. 5 Sub Section, Bridge
Guard, E Company, 5th Battalion, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
