Corporal Charles Smith, 1st Battalion, King's Own

Charles Smith did his National Service with the 1st Battalion, King's Own Royal Regiment, between 1957 and 1959.  His service took him out to Kenya and Aden.

Private Charles Smith is on the left of this group of kitchen staff on board HMT Empire Fowey.  Due to the rough weather in the Bay of Biscay and the fact that the majority of the soldiers on board were suffering from sea sickness, Private Smith was seconded to the kitchen as he was not suffering from the conditions.
