The Plateau on top of Spion Kop taken by the British. This view is
looking westward and here is a long trench made by our troops after
driving off the Boers. Little shelter was however afforded to our men as
it was enfiladed by fire from the eastern peak and eventually 252 of our
men were buried in the trench.
