First World War The Borough of Morecambe War Memorial During the First World War the Borough of Morecambe was separate from Lancaster, and indeed Heysham which did not join with Morecambe until 1923) and they commemorated the fallen of the First World War with the erection of a permanent memorial which still stands today. The Borough also produced a book which listed both the fallen and those who served. Prior to the erection of the permanent memorial and temporary memorial was situation on the front.
