In-Pensioner/Private Walter David Thomas

Grave of In Pensioner Walter David Thomas, Brookwood Military Cemetery.
Died on 22nd April 1963 at the Infirmary, Royal Hospital Chelsea. As 6714 he had served in the King’s Own from 1901 to 1919, including active service in the First Great War with both the 1st and 2nd Battalions, arriving in France on 14th April 1915. Before that, when serving in the 1st Battalion, he had acted as batman to the late Lieutenant Colonel J M Young DSO, and it is pleasing that last year both Mrs Young and her son Major Hamish Young had visited Thomas at Chelsea, which had given him great pleasure. He had only been an in-pensioner at the Royal Hospital for little over a year, being admitted in February 1962. Lieutenant Colonel J B Underwood represented the King’s Own at his funeral at Brookwood.
Accession Number: KO2934/03
