			Sergeant
			Alfred Price DCM, number 32, 1st/5th King’s Own. KO0793/01
			Recommendation:
			Number 32,
Sergeant Alfred Price. Honours and Awards – Distinguished Conduct Medal. Action for which commended. On 27th April 1915 during an advance from Potizje Wood near Ypres, to
support the Lahore Division, the company in which this Non Commissioned
Officer was serving had reached a point where the curtain of shell fire
was impenetrable, when a shell fell in the middle of the platoon,
killing 8 and wounding 11. The company was then ordered to take up a
position in the next field, and this NCO volunteered to stay, at the
above point during heavy shell and rifle fire, and by his coolness kept
the Company steady whilst the Company Commander led them to the new
position. This NCO also acted as temporary Company Sergeant Major for 10
weeks, during which time he was indefatigable in supervising working
parties and wiring parties, going practically without any rest himself,
and never failing to act in a highly conscientious and intrepid manner. Recommended by Lieutenant Colonel F Eaves, Commanding 1st/5th Battalion,
King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, (TF). Citation:

“For conspicuous gallantry when assisting his company commander under
very trying circumstances after heavy casualties had been suffered.”
