bulletAbyssinian Shield -Note from Jun 1966 “This shield was bought at the time of the amalgamation of the King’s Own with the Border Regiment. It was included in the junk to be sold to a dealer. It’s fellow is now in the possession of Major F J Parker of Lancaster.
The inscription reads as follows but is only written on this shield and not on Major Parkers:
‘A Souvenir Presented by Hormusjee Rassam Esqr, to the Officers of the 4th King’s Own Regiment as a reminiscence of old Aden associates and in Remembrance of 10th day of April 1868 when I was captive at Magdala’.
