Sister ship of the Nevasa she was built in Glasgow in 1912 for the
British India Steam Navigation Company.
She survived many U-Boat attacks through the Second World War but
was finally sunk in the Gulf of Taranto with the loss of four lives
when she hit an Italian mine on 1st May 1945.

HMT Nevasa (1912)
Launched on 12 Dec 1912 by Barclay, Curle & CO, in Glasgow for the
British India Steam Navigation Company (sister ship to the Neuralia)
her maiden voyage took her from London to East Africa and Calcutta
on 22 Mar 1913. In August 1914 she was converted to a troopship and
resumed commercial service in 1919. In 1925 she was permanently
rebuilt as a troopship and was used for both school children’s trips
and troop carrying in the 1930s. In 1939-45 she was used steadily as
a troop carrier between the UK, India, Basra, Madagascar and for the
Normandy Landings.
She was scrapped in 1948.
