Note on the Appointments of General Sir Archibald Hunter in the First World War:

17 Aug 1914
To command 13th (Western) Division – Salisbury Plain. (In the same order Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien was appointed to command Aldershot Training Area).
22 Aug 1914
To command Aldershot Training Centre. 8th (Light) Division and 9th (Scottish) Division.
27 Nov 1914
The under mentioned appointment is made:
Commander, Aldershot Training Centre – General Sir Archibald Hunter, GCB, GCVO, DSO. Dated 23 Aug 1914.
30 Dec 1914
Army Organization – It is notified that the present organization of the Land Forces into Divisions and Army Corps is being further developed by the creation of Armies, each of which will consist generally of three Army Corps.
The 3rd Army will be commanded by General Sir Archibald Hunter.
23 Mar 1916
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Aldershot Command.
“Head-quarters of Training Centres will cease to exist ……
“In the case of Aldershot Training Centre and Command the present General officer Commanding, Aldershot Training Centre, will become General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Aldershot Command”.
(Date above given effect to 8 May 1916.)
