Letter from the Major General C F Clery CB, Deputy Adjutant General, War Office, London, 13 Mar 1899 regarding Hunter’s appointment as a Major General and to Command a First Class District in India.
“War Office, London SW
13th March 1899
Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to inform you that the Queen has approved of your being appointed a Major General on the Staff to Command a first class District in India vice Major General Sir W Galbraith KCB, who will be retired on account of age on the 14th May next, and I am to request that you will place yourself in communication with the India Office for further instructions as to passage, and acknowledge the receipt of this letter.
