Troopships  - HMT Dorsetshire


HMT Dorsetshire
Built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast in 1920 as a Bibby Line freighter she was converted to trooping in 1927 at Barrow in Furness. She was sister ship to HMT Shropshire. In 1934 she could carry as many as 1404 troops, and was equipped with lifeboats for a total of 1934 souls.  She was converted to a hospital ship in 1939 and remained in service until 1948 when she was refurbished and became a migrant ship. In 1953 she carried her last troops from Liverpool to Korea.  Scrapped in 1954.
