Colonels of the King's Own Royal Regiment

General Studholme Hodgson

Original Commission date unknown. Appointed ADC to Duke of Cumberland 1745. Was present at Battles of Fontenoy and Culloden. Captain and Lieutenant Colonel 1st Foot Guards 22 February 1747. Colonel of 50th Foot, 30 May 1756. Major General 25 June 1759. Lieutenant General 1761. Commanded the Expedition against Belle Isle, Governor of Forts George and Augustus. Colonel of the King’s Own 7 November 1768. General 1778. Became Colonel of 7th Dragoon Guards 1782. Field Marshall 30 July 1796. Died 20 October 1798. Age 90. Father of John Hodgson.
