Colonels of the King's Own Royal Regiment

General William Sankey

Ensign 1844. Lieutenant 1845. Captain 1854. Served in the Crimea as Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General till 16 December 1854. Assistant Quartermaster General in 1855. Was present at the actions of Balganak, Alma, McKenzie’s Farm, Balaklava and Sevastopol. Major, Brevet Colonel and CB 1857. Colonel 1862 in 9th Regiment. Commanded 62nd Regiment 1872-1873 when he was made a Brigadier General in India. Major General 1878. Lieutenant General 1880. General 1881. Colonel of the King’s Own 1 September 1890. Died at Biarritz, 16 November 1892, age 70.
